ATM Physical Interfaces

This course discusses the responsibilities and the functions of the ATM Physical Layer and its sub layers, especially the functions of the Transmission Convergence (TC) sub layer. It covers the range and variety of ATM physical interfaces (such as Synchronous Transport Signal (STS) frames). In particular, the course addresses the importance of optical networks to the success of ATM. It includes network scenarios involving ATM switches, with and without optical ports.

Prerequisites

ATM Networking

Global Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
  • Discuss different types of ATM interfaces.
  • Define the responsibility of the physical layer.

Target Audience

This course is for network professionals and managerial staff who are interested in learning about ATM interfaces.
